Lawsuit Filed against David Brock Smith for making False Publications
Roseburg, Ore. – Oregon State Senate Candidate, Todd Vaughn, has filed a lawsuit against appointed Senator, David Brock Smith, for violating Oregon election laws pertaining to the publication of false statements ORS 260.532. Vaughn is demanding compensatory damages, a mailer, paid for by Smith, correcting his false statements and be awarded his legal fees if victorious.

David Brock Smith published multiple false statements in recent circulars (mailers) that violate ORS 260.532. One of those statements reads: “TODD VAUGHN KICKED-OUT OF DOUGLAS COUNTY CENTRAL COMMITTEE. VAUGHN IS SIMPLY TOO EXTREME, DISHONEST AND HAS NO EXPERIENCE.” This is a false statement. Todd Vaughn was never kicked out of the Douglas County Central Committee. He is a member of the DCRCC and an elected PCP. David Brock Smith, his allies in the DCRCC and the elected officials who signed the endorsement of his recall as a delegate to the ORP, orchestrated a vote to recall Todd Vaughn as a delegate to stop Todd Vaughn from exposing the truth about David Brock Smith’s voting record and his ties to the Chinese Communist Party.
Todd Vaughn is honest, in fact, honest. He is not extreme. And he does have experience. David Brock Smith knows that Todd Vaughn was never kicked out of the DCRCC and David Brock Smith knows that Todd Vaughn is honest, not extreme and that he does have the experience required to be an effective senator.
Another false statement made in a David Brock Smith mailer was: “Vaughn has a cease-and-desist order because he is lying about Senator David Brock Smith.” When, in fact, no judge has ordered Todd Vaughn to do anything and no Cease-and-Desist Order exists against Todd Vaughn, or any individual or group associated with his campaign. Todd Vaughn has never made an untrue claim about David Brock Smith. And no legal action was taken by David Brock Smith because David Brock Smith knows that the statements made by Todd Vaughn about David Brock Smith’s record and political ties are true.
Todd Vaughn has issued the following statement in regard to the filing of this lawsuit:
“Regardless of the outcome of the election, I’m holding David Brock Smith accountable to tell the truth. My campaign has spent roughly $19,000 to David Brock Smith’s roughly $200,000. David Brock Smith has proven, in the past, that money can buy elections. But I’m taking a stand to prove that money can’t buy the truth.”
